Sixthsensor is a web based archive for a selection of my projects. The alias underlines my interest in using sensors, algorithm controlled graphics, realtime audio and video projection technology to create systems that merge with physical spaces and appear alive.I work professionally both as an artist and a designer and I very much enjoy the freedom and constraints on both sides.
In the institutional art world there exists a common perception of designers as creative people who gladly compromise conceptual and artistic value for cold cash and hence lack the desirable 'artistic spark'. In the design world the archetype of the artist is an illogical absent minded genius who is unable to communicate ideas clearly, structure a process or to make compromises in a team. The distinctive categorisation and the prejudges that follow are false preconceptions and they need to be broken. It is destructive for creativity on both sides; no artist wants to be labelled as illogical, no designer wants to be labelled a commercial whore. Everything can be displayed as art or design but will ultimately be judged on how well it works in the context it is presented.
