The New Designhouse in Kolding is taking shape. Create a piece to entertain and invoke interest among the potential investors showing up at an open meeting.
Improvibes is an infinite audio-visual composition generated by a simple algorithm. The project is a personal rehearsal in generative systems and visual music rather than a finished piece.
"[...] making seeds rather than forrests" - a quote by Brian Eno (*1) that beautifully describe the core of this project. Like a forests, the composition changes over time and is never repeated. The algorithm continues to develop new expressions within the same family of sounds and shapes defined by the author.
Improvibes is in fact three programs talking together dynamically; Max/MSP, Processing and Logic Pro. Max/MSP generates rhythms, harmonies and various modification data which is routed to a software synth in Logic Pro and to Processing for visualisation. Processing draws shapes using a custom made flocking algorithm.
*1) The quote is taken from a dialogue between Brian Eno and Will Wright at SALT (Seminars About Long Term Thinking) in 2006.
