Design a concept for a light installation that is bound to a specific a public space at the school. Construct a functional mock-up.
An unreal bastard between nature and technology consisting of an old lamp swept in wires has struck roots in a dark corridor. When visitors pass by and open the door, sunlight flows in. The sunlight is attracted to the roots made of wire, and the moment the light is absorbed by the 'power plant', it produces a bright flash from the light bulb.
The installation tells a magical story that conflicts with logic sense and common knowledge. A transformation of light from natural sunlight to water-like photons to electric light is taking place. Fitting in as discrete part of the environments energy cycle the plant is fed when visitors open a door. Mimicking other living organisms, the 'power plant' returns energy to the environment when it brightens the corridor for the visitors.
The installation was functional for 2 weeks in the hallway to the cantina of the design school and was given cheerful feedback from a lot of the passing students.
The project was realized using Processing and Wiring.
